Organic chain opens first St. Louis area store

An organic grocery chain will open its first St. Louis-area store next month in the metro-east. Fresh Thyme Farmers Market will open its doors on Jan. 14 at 6569 N. Illinois St. in Fairview Heights. Fairview Heights Economic Development Director Mike Malloy said the city has heard from many residents asking about the new grocery store.

Company spokeswoman Jodi Marsh said this will be the grocery store’s first locale for the greater St. Louis area and the third in Illinois. The other Illinois locations are in Mt. Prospect and Deerfield, both in the northern part of the state. Marsh said the company opened 10 stores this year, and the metro-east store will be the first of 11 scheduled to open for business in 2015.

The grocery store is the latest tenant to move into Fairview City Centre. Fairview Heights-based Impact Strategies has built the shopping center for Dayton, Ohio-based property owner Kimco Realty Corp. The redevelopment at the corner of Lincoln Trail and Illinois 159 is where a shopping center previously included Kmart from 1998 to 2012 and a Venture store prior to that. That shopping strip was demolished last year. A portion of it was built in the late 1960s and pre-dated the St. Clair Square mall across the street.
