Spain: Green beans surpass 4.5 Euro per kilo
Over the course of last week, green bean prices in Spain have sharply increased, in some cases going up by more than one Euro per kilo. The Helda registered initial prices of 3.90 Euro and final sales at 2.30 Euro/kilo. The Red Perona reached between 1.90 and 3.60 Euro/kilo, while the Strike registered initial prices of 4.50 Euro and final sales at 2.60 Euro/kilo. These prices are due to supply shortages, both in Almeria and Granada.
Long cucumber prices, after going up by about 20 cents in a week, have dropped again to values ranging from 26 to 40 cents. Black short cucumbers register initial prices of 70 cents and final sales at 50 cents per kilo. French cucumbers reach between 52 and 70 cents. Despite the drop in temperatures and the lower supply, the marketed volumes of short and French cucumbers are small, while long cucumbers represent more than 90% of all sales in the province during the month of November.
Pepper prices have increased over the course of last week. Italian green peppers are sold for between 45 and 72 cents per kilo. Lamuyo green peppers register initial prices of 65 cents and final sales at 45 cents per kilo. The Red Lamuyo reached prices ranging from 70 to 90 cents per kilo. Yellow bell pepper prices have increased, registering initial prices of 98 cents and final sales at 80 cents per kilo. Red bell pepper prices ranged from 72 to 85 cents and green bell peppers reached initial prices of 70 cents and final sales at 55 cents per kilo. Demand for peppers has again increased after the previous month's slowdown. Large distributors are preparing their orders ahead of Christmas. Exporters hope that next year will bring an increase in the product's value.
Tomato prices remain stable compared to last week. Pear tomatoes were sold for 30 to 45 cents. On the vine tomatoes reach initial prices of 55 cents and final sales at 40 cents per kilo.
Courgettes, both thin and thick, recorded values from 80 cents to one Euro per kilo.
Long aubergines reached initial prices of 70 cents and final sales at 50 cents. Striped aubergine prices ranged between 62 and 97 cents. With the drop in temperatures, production volumes have decreased, so prices have increased again. France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, which are this vegetable's main consumers, prefer medium calibres over small ones, while the British market mostly demands the latter.
