France: Carrefour to promote locally-produced seasonal vegetables

Carrefour has announced plans to support French vegetable farmers and promote their products at its stores while they are in season. The group said its move was prompted by the “highly unusual weather conditions” in 2014, as well as “the serious disruptions that have resulted from the sanctions imposed on Russia”.

The move will see Carrefour partner with Légumes de France, and it will cover all of its 1,200 Carrefour hypermarkets and Carrefour Market supermarkets in the country. Special signage will be used to identify all ‘France Origin’ products.

Carrefour said the agreement, which came into effect on 14 November, was the first of its kind, and will also apply to spring and summer vegetables.
