Exports between January and October amounted to 1,783 tons

Peru: Blueberry exports grew by 90%

The CEO of Terra Business SAC, Federico Beltran Molina, stated that Peruvian blueberry exports between January and October 2014 amounted to 1,783,680 kilos, 95.2% more than in the same period of 2013, when they amounted to 913,400 kilos.

Revenues between January and October 2014 amounted to US $20 million and to $5.1 million in the same period last year, he stated.

377.780 kilos of blueberry were exported in January; 349,740 kilos in February; 116,120 kilos in March; 16,810 kilos in April; 24,240 kilos in May; 15,260 kilos in June; 23,750 kilos in July; 167,780 kilos in August; 328,320 kilos in September, and 363,850 kilos in October.

Federico Beltran said that 56% of the 1,783,680 kilos exported were sent to the United States, 20% to Hong Kong; 19% to the Netherlands; 3% to the UK; 1% to Costa Rica, 1%, and the remaining 1% to other markets.

Regarding the exporting companies, he stated that Talsa shipped 56% of the total export volume; Camposol, 40%; Intipa Foods, 1%; Fruit Export South, 1%; and other companies 2%. 

Additionally, Terra Business' CEO stated that Peru currently has 1,400 acres of blueberries, 700 of which had been planted this year.
