Poland: Tesco and PKN Orlen sign partnership and test service store format

PKN ORLEN and Tesco are testing a new convenience store format. The plan is to create 10 Tesco Express at selected Orlen service stations in Warsaw, Lodz and Krakow. The test programme will last for one year.

Tesco Express stores at Orlen stations will not only feature a brand new interior, but also a much expanded range, including fresh fruits and vegetables.

"We hope that the results of our partnership will meet the expectations of our existing customers and encourage new customers to visit our network of service stations," said Marek Balawejder, executive director of PKN ORLEN.

"We decided to offer consumers a new quality option in the convenience segment, based on strong cooperation and experienced partners such as Tesco and PKN ORLEN," says Beata Gadamska, business director at Tesco Poland and responsible for the programme.

In the world, the Tesco Express format (convenience stores of up to 200 m2) is used in 1,672 outlets; a number which grew last year with the addition of 125 new stores.
