Turkey: Retail sales slip slightly in August

Seasonal and calendar-adjusted retail sales in Turkey dropped 0.1 percent in August on a month-on-month basis, according to figures released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat).
 
On a year-on-year basis, retail sales dropped 1 percent. Food, beverage and tobacco sales and automotive fuel sales all dropped 1.3 percent compared to August 2013.
 
Computers, books and telecommunications products sales all rose 3.2 percent year-on-year, while electronic goods and furniture sales dropped sharply, by 11.4 percent. Meanwhile, medical goods and cosmetic sales rose by 10 percent and mail-order and Internet sales went up 7.8 percent.
 
While overall sales dropped on both a monthly and annual basis, seasonal and calendar adjusted retail turnover rose 0.6 percent in August from July, jumping 6.2 percent year-on-year.
