Malaysia: Mushroom cultivation to be expanded in Penang

The Farmers Organisation Authority has allocated RM1.2 million to expand the cultivation of mushrooms in seven Farmers Organisations (PPKs) in Penang.

Its Director-general Datuk Arpan Shah Satu said under this project, 40,000 mounds of Grey Oyster mushroom will be distributed to each PPK and expected to be harvested early next year.

"So far, the average mushroom production under the supervision of the State Farmers Organisation has only achieved 500 kilograms per month.

"With this project, we are targeting a production of 2.4 tons per month beginning next year," he told reporters after attending a programme with MyAgrosis Club University of Science, Malaysia (USM) here today.
