Lane Cove-based organic food co-op Nourishing Source is growing

A Lane Cove-based co-op promising organic food that doesn’t cost the earth, has branched out to 80 families in three years.

Nourishing Source began in 2011 with 11 families signed up as members and has grown to 80 members.

Co-ordinator Ragna Gilmour said they offered organic food and products between 30 to 40 per cent less than their retail price in supermarkets or health food stores.

“We are in a very good place at the moment with a lot of interest and a lot of purchasing power and a lot of products on offer,” she said.

“We pretty much offer anything found in the shops except milk or dairy products, besides cheese, and have just launched a brand new website.”

She said the majority of members are from Lane Cove but there are others from the wider northern Sydney area.

“I think there’s a big movement in Australia of consumers realising shops are taking them for a ride and are not making the best choices,” she said.

“Organic is a better way of doing things, not to mention it is better for the planet.”
