Banana sellers urge for opening of Senegal-Guinea border

Effects of the Ebola epidemic can be felt in the fruit trade in Senegal which is normally controlled by Guinean sellers. Fruit sellers want the border to be opened between Senegal and Guinea as it is their natural source of fruit.

In the three shops visited the message was the same, “we want the border opened!”. According to Alpha BA the prices have not yet increased, but “the problem is beginning concerning supplies”.

Mohamed Diallo says that “as the only case from Guinea has been treated; now, I think that the border could be opened in order for citizens from the two countries to carry out their transactions…” Yet a young seller born in Senegal of Guinean parents demands authorities to take all necessary measures to protect his country of birth from contamination.
