Publix renovating at least a dozen Duval super markets

Publix Super Markets Inc. continues renovating is stores in Duval County, inching closer to a $10 million investment.

The Lakeland-based chain submitted plans last week to renovate the 12th of its 30 Duval County supermarkets.

HGR Construction Inc. is listed as the contractor to renovate the North Jacksonville grocery store at 1100 Dunn Ave., No. 100, at a project cost of $515,000.

The 37,886-square-foot store joins 11 others that are being renovated or rebuilt a cost of $9.35 million. The Dunn Avenue project boosts that to a dozen at $9.9 million.

Publix spokesman Dwaine Stevens said Wednesday the company has a remodel program in which every store is assessed on a designated rotation of years based on a location’s needs.

He said the scope of each remodel varies for each store.

When it comes to store replacements, Stevens said the real estate team constantly reviews the store network and markets within the six states in which it operates, “looking for opportunities to better serve our customers.”

He said those opportunities include new store sites and replacement sites, and that decisions on those are based on proprietary criteria.

In addition to Dunn Avenue, stores being renovated or rebuilt are stores at Bartram Park; Deerwood Village; 731 Duval Station Road; 6001 Argyle Forest Blvd.; 9518 Argyle Forest Blvd.; 7749 Normandy Blvd.; 4320 Deerwood Lake Parkway; 4495 Roosevelt Blvd.; 9100 Merrill Road; 12620 Beach Blvd.; and 2771 Monument Road.

The Monument Road Publix is being rebuilt and is expected to open in November. The city approved four signs Tuesday for Publix Food & Pharmacy and Presto at the new store.
