US (NY): New chapter for Long Island Cauliflower Association
But as times changed, so did LICA, which eventually expanded its agriculture business to serve different types of farmers.
Now, it’s altering once again — this time, to accommodate more homeowners by celebrating the opening of its newly-completed Polish Town showroom with an upcoming customer appreciation day.
Last winter, the association tore down its existing warehouse on Marcy Avenue. Its newly-constructed 1,100 square foot facility was completed this spring and now houses LICA’s inventory of 8,000 retail products, which includes everything from fertilizer to candles to a clothing apparel line.
“We have been here for a long time and we are trying to grow as our customer base continues to grow and provide them with products that are unique to the market,” CEO John Bokina Jr. said. “People aren’t going to be able to go into Home Depot and find these items. And that is true whether you’re a home gardener or you’re a farmer.”
LICA’s customer appreciation day will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A turf and fertilizer specialist will be available to answer questions and another specialist will be there to answer questions about bugs, fungus and plant diseases. The showroom is located at 139 Marcy Ave. in Riverhead.
