Bean sprouts recalled over possible salmonella contamination

A brand of beans sprouts is being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination.

Fresh Sprout International Ltd. is recalling Fresh Sprouts brand Fresh Bean Sprouts. The product is sold in a 454 gram bag, and has the UPC number 827468001000.

If purchased, the product should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.

The recall was triggered following an inspection conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

In healthy people, short-term symptoms associated with salmonella can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea. The risk of serious and sometimes deadly infections is higher amongst young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
