Metro sells Real supermarkets in Turkey

German company Metro is focusing its retail chain Real on the German market at home again, and is also selling its Real supermarkets in Turkey now, German website onvista.de reports.

Real Turkey, with twelve supermarkets, a headquarters and a total of around 1800 employees, is taken over by Turkish businessman Haci Duran Begendik, Metro announced on Monday. Until recently, Begendik was general manager of a Turkish retail chain with around 2700 employees. At the end of 2012, Metro had already sold its Real supermarkets in Eastern Europe to French trading group Auchan.

The sale of Real Turkey will presumably be concluded in the summer, if the Turkish competition authority has given the green light. The Metro Group will still be represented in Turkey with the Cash & Carry chain and with Media-Saturn, the company emphasized. No comments were made about the selling price.
