Agriculture is main factor in Morocco's economic growth

Economic growth in Morocco has gone from 2.7% in 2012 to 4.4% in 2013. The main contributor towards this growth is the agricultural sector that has seen a 19% growth in 2013, compared to 2% for non-agricultural activities.

''The added value of agriculture in volume has increased 19% compared to a 8.9% decrease in 2012'' indicates the HCP (High Commissioner for Planning).

Many factors explain this growth and include favourable weather conditions and action from the Plan Maroc Vert. However despite this growth, in terms of GDP per capita, Morocco is behind Algeria ($5,438), Tunisia ($4,345) and Egypt ($3,226) with $3,199.
