Supeco: Carrefour's Spanish secret weapon

Carrefour has just opened 3 new Supeco stores in Spain (making a total of 7). Supeco supermarkets are based on the cash and carry concept. With 1,500-2,000 square metres on average, the shops offer a range of 3,000 products. The presentation is similar to a warehouse where products are displayed on pallets with stock in the racks above.

Up to 25% degressive prices are offered on virtual lots. Large-scale packaging is also available for restaurants and large families.

Superco promises: ''the lowest prices in retail''. The brand Carrefour Discount is very much present amongst their offers.

Fruit and vegetables are found in a refrigerated area and all stores have a butcher's stand.

Supeco also offers 250-300 local products, i.e. over 10% of their offer.

Carrefour opened their first two pilot stores in Andalousia in 2012. Two other test stores opened in 2013 (in Andalousia and Madrid).

The three new stores opened this year are in Madrid, Galice and Andalousia.
