Thai mangosteen, durian supplies short of demand in Cambodia, Vietnam

Cambodia and Vietnam have urged Thailand to export more mangosteen and durian in response to the high demand in both neighbouring countries.

Sombat Juengtrakoon, deputy chairman of the Thai-Cambodian Border Trade and Tourism Association in Chanthaburi Province, told journalists Monday that Thailand are exporting a lower volume of mangosteen and durian than previous years due to late production from poor weather conditions and high demand in the domestic market.

According to Mr Sombat, Thailand received orders for more than 300 tonnes per day through border checkpoints in Chanthaburi. Initially, Thai traders ordered large quantities of mangosteen and durian from Southern Thailand and exported them to Cambodia and Vietnam, though it is still not enough for the demand in both countries.
