DHL builds its own network for food distribution

Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL)'s online supermarket, allyouneed.com, is building its own logistics network for sending food in German, together with 'DHL Kurier', reports the German website lebensmittelpraxis.de. The company announced there will be more flexibility from the order to the delivery, as well as optimised packaging and shorter delivery times.

From now on customers will be able to order up to 24 hours before delivery. They also have the choice from an extensive assortment of around 20,000 articles. The delivery is done the next evening or on the desired date up to ten days after placing the order. People can choose from delivery between 18 and 20 hours or delivery between 20 and 22 hours. The products ordered are delivered by 'DHL Kurier', where they are supplied without packaging material in bags from decomposable corn starch. Until the delivery the products are in sealed fresh boxes, which aren't opened until they arrive at the customer. Products that are found unsatisfactory upon delivery, are taken back and credited.

The new service is offered without surcharge in Berlin, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, Cologne, Munich, Stuttgart and the Ruhr area. Other regions will follow.
