The professional agricultural organisation ASAJA Murcia stressed that the melon and watermelon campaign in Murcia is developing in a favourable manner due to the international orientation of both products, as well as their high quality, for which they are truly appreciated. It has also called for both products to be more heavily promoted in Northern European countries.
According to ASAJA Murcia General Secretary, Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca, "the quality of Murcian melons and watermelons this season is very high, making them quite valued by international consumers, especially in the European Union and Russia, where they have positioned themselves really well within the distribution channels."
Gálvez Caravaca underlined that, "the greatest challenge for the melon and watermelon sector is to form an agri-food interprofessional organisation that better represents its interests and which allows for a more efficient and balanced regulation of both productions."
The ASAJA Murcia representative also pointed out "how essential it is to establish new strategies to promote Murcian melons and watermelons in Eastern Europe, Russia and other markets with great potential, such as Norway, Finland and Sweden."
