Brevas Sabrosas (tasty early figs) from Colombia

With 700 hectares for production in the region of Chita-Boyacá, Brevas Sabrosas is a Colombian producer and trader of organic early figs. With its own production and that from associated producers, Brevas Sabrosas has enough supplies for the entire year.

First quality, $2.5 per kilo and 3 to 4 cm.

"At the moment we have 30 tonnes for export," said Liliana Rojas, general manager of Brevas Sabrosas, "but for the rest of the year we will have 20 tonnes per week." The early figs are grown in its own plantations, with a total acreage of 700 hectares, and also by small producers who ship their fruit to Brevas Sabrosas for them to export it. The firm's own production is organic and has the Good Agricultural Practices certification.

Extra quality, $3.5 per kilo and 4 to 6 cm.

"We are working to adopt our own logo and packaging," said Rojas. The company now exports to Canada, but it also has plans to export to Europe.

Assortment, $3.0 per kilo: 3 to 4 cm and 4 to 6 cm.
