Pakistani mango exporters high hopes for South Korea

Pakistan could tap into the $2 billion dollar market of South Korea with mango exports, after shipping the first load in history.

Export approval was received last year and this year Pakistan is exporting 500 tonnes. The first consignment consisted of 10 tons.

It is hoped the mango trade will help to increase transactions between the countries in other items, particularly those related to fresh produce.

Pakistani mangoes are able to attract a premium price in South Korea and are said to fetch up to 100% more than those from other markets.

Sohail Nisar Chairman Pak-Korea Business Council of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry said, “South Korea is a big market of more than 12,000 tonnes of mangoes and is currently importing fruit from a few countries."
