India: Kesar mangoes shipped to the UK by CA Container
For the first time ever in Indian export history, Seven Star fruits has exported Kesar Mangoes, the number one variety of mangoes from the Gujarat region via sea to UK in a Controlled Atmosphere (CA) Container. The recipient company in this venture in the UK is POUPART IMPORTS, the largest single supplier to the national wholesale markets in the country. The aim will be to supply to an already existing and sophisticated market which has the capacity to absorb far greater volumes than are currently being shipped and to tap-in to the already existing infrastructure. The resultant cost savings can be passed on to the customer who in turn can price luxury mangoes advantageously to the consumer.
Kesar is a unique quality mango from Gujarat region of India and known for its exotic aroma, sweetness and juiciness. The mangoes are grown to international standards and practices, meeting all requirements of Global GAP, MRL levels packed in BRC, SEDEX and ETI audited packhouses.
There has been a custom and practice of shipping mangoes by air from India, with the inherently high freight costs which are not always re-couped ultimately by the growers. Sea-freighting is more cost effective and larger volumes can be shipped in one go.
The Company is targeting the Asian community with these KESAR mangoes,via the wholesale markets and retail customers throughout the UK and Europe, as it is a most preferred variety among Asians.In addition one of the great benefits of the Kesar mango is the substantially prolonged shelf-life which sets it apart from other popular varieties.
The Management of Seven Star Fruits and Poupart Imports have expressed a lot of optimism in this innovative approach and are confident in this experimental shipment. The company aims to ship more and more mangoes to various destinations worldwide by sea and if this trial container proves successful, expects to be copied rapidly by other Indian exporters all of whom will be keen to increase volumes on a rapidly developing marketplace.
