AOP Serena started harvesting yellow peaches last week, and this week it will start harvesting yellow nectarines.
According to last month's estimates, production seems to be consistent with that of 2012 in terms of early peaches and nectarines, whereas there should be 15% less of medium-late varieties.

Bad weather made pollination difficult and in the last 10 days, it slowed down the ripening of early varieties, which should have smaller grades than last year. There shouldn't be problems in the size of late varieties, provided that cold weather stops.
As regards white peaches, they will be available only around mid-June, whereas Percoca peaches and plum will be harvested starting from mid-June.
AOP Serena allocates 630 hectares to stone fruit, 580 of which are reserved for peaches and nectarines, 30 are for apricots and 20 for plums.
The whole production of the Serena Consortium follows the rules of integrated control and more than 80% of it has the GlobalGAP certification.
The main destination market is Italy, followed by Germany and by some countries in Eastern Europe, almost exclusively through retailing.
