France: Carrefour opens first organic store in Paris

On 20 March, Carrefour opened its 1st store completely dedicated to organic products right in the heart of Paris. Based at 29 boulevard Diderot in the 12th arrondissement, Carrefour's new organic store features a wide range of major-brand and Carrefour own-brand organic products over a 170 m² sales area. Customers can choose from a specially tailored offering of fruit and vegetables, breads, fresh produce and grocery products. A total of more than 2000 items, all at low prices. The store also has long opening hours: it's open from 8 AM to 9 PM, as well as on Sunday mornings, so as to best fit in with the lifestyles of its customers.

In keeping with its commitments to sustainable development and safeguarding the environment, this Carrefour Organic store is equipped with closed-door cold storage units and LED lighting, reducing energy consumption and the overall impact on the environment. In the same vein, customers can also buy products in bulk, reducing the amount of packaging required. The store also has recyclable plastic bags and reusable cotton shopping bags available from the tills, as well as paper bags for fruit and vegetables. Finally, the store endeavours to source its fruit and vegetables from local production areas.
