UK: Waitrose continues Scottish expansion

A new Waitrose store is due to open at Burghmuir, Stirling in early 2013. The store will become the fifth Waitrose in Scotland, following the operator’s existing outlets at Byres Road in Glasgow, Newton Mearns, and Morningside and Comely Bank in Edinburgh.

Retail specialists Barr Construction have been appointed by the superstore operator to design and deliver the entire interior fit-out of the 25,000sq ft store, which includes a cafe for 56 customers and a separate dining room for Waitrose partners.

Barr construction manager Derek Simpson said: “Barr has a track record of delivering stores for the major retail chains and it is especially pleasing to be involved in our third project with Waitrose.

“It’s a challenging timescale we’re committed to which spans the festive period, but we are confident of delivering another quality store in plenty of time for its opening early in the New Year.”

Waitrose construction manager Gary Kind said: “We have established an excellent relationship with Barr Construction since first working with them on our Newton Mearns store.

“They have a clear understanding of what our customers expect from our branches so we are able to deliver a first-rate shopping experience.

“Our new Stirling store will not only enable us to increase our presence in Scotland, but build on our growing reputation for quality and service in the region.”
