Carrefour continues restructure with changes in Brazil and Italy
The French retail giant said it will shut its online shop in the Latin American nation, as part of a local restructuring plan. The move is part of a two-year-long restructuring plan, which will see Carrefour focus on its hypermarkets, wholesale stores and finance unit.
The move follows scalebacks by other firms in the Brazilian online retail space recently, including B2W Cia Global do Varejo (the country’s biggest publicly listed retailer), which had to cut down on aggressive shipping offers after racking up losses.
Meanwhile, in Italy, Carrefour opened a pop up outlet in Milan that will only offer products under its ‘Terre D'Italia’ premium own label brand. The store is located in Milan's main train station, Stazione Centrale, and covers around 270 sq. ft. It offers over 280 artisanal products - including pasta, desserts, wines, sauces, jams and preserves - from small producers, classified according to their region of origin.
The store will remain open until the start of February, and could be followed by similar such moves if the trial is successful.
