Spain: 22 Canary tomato producers have RUP quality seal
The Canary government's councillor of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Waters, Juan Ramón Hernández, announced today that a total of 22 Canary tomato producers are already authorised to use the Regiones Ultraperiféricas (Outermost Regions) quality seal.
The councillor explained that this is the only European quality seal these crops currently have, besides the one for eco-friendly farming, because up until now the sector has not applied to receive a protected designation of origin.
According to EU legislation, only producer associations can apply for these quality seals.
Hernández pointed out that products with the RUP logo are those of superior quality, whether from agriculture or fisheries, natural or processed, presenting Canary specific characteristics.
