AU: Westfield loses battle to stop Woolworths development

Despite objections from retail giant Westfield, Woolworths has finally won approval to develop the company's old distribution centre at Everton Park, paving the way for a new supermarket, Masters hardware store, restaurant and multi-unit dwellings.

The final development application, approved at a Brisbane City Council meeting last night, is a twice-amended version of the initial plans for the site lodged in 2009 and is set to bring more than 400 full-time and part-time jobs to the area.

But the DA has its fair share of opposition, with Westfield's head office in Sydney contributing some of the 59 submissions lodged against the proposal during two public notification periods.
