Argentina: Anticipated decline in apple and pear distribution this year

A significant decline in the export of apples and pears is expected, says Oscar Martin, president of CAFI (Cámara Argentina de Fruticultores Integrados).

Martin provided the press with a detailed analysis of the fruit crisis in Río Negro y Neuquen.

Apart from this analysis, he claims that "the general status of the fruit sector has been severely compromised. Expanding costs affect trade agreements between Mexico and Brazil, and on top of that, the worldwide crisis has a crippling effect on the orders of Argentinian products."

The last two years, says Martin, investments in the fruit sector have dropped. Fewer crops have been planted, a fact that will undoubtedly have visual repercussions on the market. "80,000 jobs and over 40,000 hectare of produce will feel the consequences."

This year, an export drop of 130 million dollars is expected.
