Germany: Strawberry turnover decreases by 28 percent

In Germany the wet and cold spring has clearly left its traces on fruit and vegetables. The German news magazine Focus reports, based on the figures from the union for consumer research (GfK), that the turnover of strawberries in May was 28 percent lower than last year. Besides this the asparagus harvest, for instance, was ten percent lower in the south-west of the country than it was in 2011.

According to Focus the small asparagus supply led to much higher prices. This is why the turnovers that traders made with asparagus were at around the same level as last year.
