Food prices can go up if transgenic is refused

Considerations by one of the most important supermarket chains in the United Kingdom.

Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc, one of the most important supermarket chains in the United Kingdom said that it's getting more difficult to find traditional food and point out the risk of food prices going up if GM is refused.

This is one of the reasons why the chain is relaxed about its policy regarding genetically modified food.

The chain points to the 70% of soya produced in the world as being GM and this is the main product used by producers to feed the animals.

On the other hand, GM cultivations represent a benefit regarding productivity. According to the food investigator at IRTA (Institute for Investigation and Food Technology), talking about GM corn Mon 810, he pointed out that it is 15% more productive in these areas were there's "taladro", a bug responsible for the biggest plague attacking corn in the whole world.

But this position is not new in the supermarkets in the United Kingdom. Asda was the first to decide on being flexible against products coming from plants genetically modified, or transgenic.
