Colombia: Cajamarca could export high quality Hass avocados
At least 20,000 Hass avocado certified seeds will be delivered to farmers in Cajamarca, this is due to a project for more than 100 producer families in the region, who are also associated to Aguacatec.
The agricultural pantry, as this town is known in western Tolima (Colombia) seeks to diversify this product's production, promote this fruit's cultivation and in turn generate better income for rural families in Cajamarca.
"It's a momentous event for the Department, we will launch the pilot Hass avocado program, which export is counting on and now with the FTA, we hope the economy will increase."
"Fortunately we associate growers to improve their income and also make it more profitable," indicated Jhon Edinson Hernandez of Agrocolombia Solutions.
According to information provided by newspaper El Nuevo Dia, Aguacatec also is part of this program that is built to promote tech cultivation of fruit in that municipality.
Furthermore, Hass avocado is a fruit which enjoys great prestige in the world market and has immense export possibilities.
They are thinking of cultivating 40,000 certified plants and as reported, studies were already made with the respective soils, in which the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) intervened.
