Italy: New colours and uses for carrots thanks to Bejo

Bejo research, always careful about the demands of the evolving market, frequently widens the range of its varieties, trying to satisfy both operators of the sector and consumers.

Examples are Bejo carrot varieties. Apart from a wide range of classical orange carrots, typically rich in alpha- and ß-carotene, today Bejo offers other varieties of carrots whose colours are purple, yellow and white. Each one of them represents a chance of diversification and plurality of uses.

The colour of purple carrots is due to the high anthocyanin content. Anthocyanins are flavonoids, a group of compounds which stimulate immune defence, preventing cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Anthocyanins are excellent potential colouring for several products.

Deep Purple F1

Yellow carrots often contain high levels of lutein. Lutein protects eye retina against deleterious effects of white light. Lutein is a carotenoid and it seems it also prevents the development of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Mello Yello F1

White carrots usually have a good taste and are good for digestion.

White Satin F1

On the website www.bejoitalia.it you can find the whole range of Bejo carrots and useful information about their features and cultivation.
