Market share Aldi decreases

Aldi Nord and Süd achieved a turnover of more than 23 billion euro in Germany in 2011, as reported by the German paper Berliner Morgenpost on its website. Lidl achieved a turnover of 14 billion euro. However, Aldi is slowly losing ground. Since 2006 the market share of Aldi decreased from 40% to 37% amongst the discounters. Lidl in the meantime have a market share of 25%.
 
The trademark Aldi is according to market research by Interbrand valued at 3,2 billion dollar, more than any other German retail company. Edeka, Lidl and Media Market each have a brand value of 1,3 to 1,4 billion dollar. To compare: the worldwide largest retailer Wal-Mart has been valued at 139,2 billion dollar.
