Brazil: Apple producers get credit for anti-hail protection
According to information from the Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (ABPM), the ministry of Agriculture will create a special credit line, with low interest, to install anti-hail protections in apple orchards. The credit line counts on low interest resources in a three year period and large due dates. Family farmers that use up to R$10,000 pay a 1% interest per year, over three year period and seven years to pay. Medium farmers that get up to R$130,000, will pay 2% interest per year with the same payments due dates. Farmers that get above R$130,000, in a R$1.3 millions limit, will pay 6.75% per year, over a 3 years period and 9 year to pay it.
For the secretary of Agriculture and Fishing, John Rodríguez, this is the right decision that was expected by ABPM, apple producers and associates. "This was possible thanks to the efforts of ABPM in collaboration with the Agriculture Department and the representatives of Santa Catarina in the Brasilia's parliament", affirmed Rodríguez.
