UK: Sainsburys second most popular online retailer
The company's online operation now brings in a turnover of over £750 million annually after a 20 per cent year-on-year jump in weekly orders.
The results come from a consumer poll, Ipsos Mori, in which participants ranked retailers according to quality of products, availability of delivery slots, customer service and call centre quality.
Jon Rudoe, director of online operations at Sainsbury's, said the online service offered by the retailer has been modelled after its bricks-and-mortar offering in terms of ease of use and friendliness of service.
He added that despite the impressive growth seen by the online shop recently the company intends to make further changes to its ecommerce site in a bid to pick up more customers and continue to improve the experience enjoyed by current users.
Morrisons chief executive officer Dalton Philips recently announced that the company plans to launch a website later this year, meaning it will move into the online shopping market for the first time.
"We have ambitious plans for the long-term development of the business, through new supermarkets, convenience stores and the development of our multichannel capabilities. I am confident that Morrisons will make further progress this year," he added.
