UK: Nature's Way opens new £15m factory

Salad and lettuce company Nature's Way Foods, has announced the opening of a new factory, based at the Chichester Food Park in West Sussex.

According to the company the £15 million, 7500m2 site, will allow it to grow its operational capacity by 200%.

Part of the new site will be new chilling and processing facilities, which will enable the company to handle high risk lines as well as the more usual fruit and salad products.

Also incorporated will be new chilling and processing techniques which the company are confident will improve quality and freshness.

factory Manager, Graham Kilhams said, "The new site has transformed our fruit and salad meals processing abilities. The opportunities now available to innovate with both products and processes is extremely exciting."

The factory has a strong environmental dimension to it. The roof is curved to ensure it blends in with the surrounding environment and is silver in colour to allow heat reduction for lower energy use.

A roof drainage system also collects water for nearby wildlife ponds and air conditioning reclaims heat.

Richard Parr, Operations Manager said, "We are very proud of or new factory and believe we have created a unique facility that is both innovative, green, a great place for our people to work and puts NWF at the forefront of fresh produce manufacturing.
