Egyptian company looks to increase orange exports by 20,000 tonnes
The Nile Establishment for International Trade is looking to increase the tonnage of oranges by 20,000 in 2017. The total value would be worth around $27m. The head of exports and logistics, Nader Shanab, said that the company targets to hit an increase of 46%.
Shanab noted that the current state of the Egyptian pound has encouraged the company to expand in exporting to current markets, such as Russia, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Jordan, Iraq and others. The company also looks towards opening new markets which show potential, including China. With contracts already signed with the country they hope to take take a chunk of the market.
Shanab pointed out that the Nile Establishment for International Trade does not own farms, but rather leases large ones of 10,000 to 20,000 feddans in size. The company exports 95% of its production and 5% to the local market, according to Shanab.
The Nile Establishment For International Trade is a subsidiary of El Adawy Company for International Trade, and specifically exports fruits and vegetables to the European Union, Russia, Ukraine, and east Asia, as well as Africa and Gulf states.
