The Evolution of Lettuce Farming

Lettuce, typically grown outside in rows, is very susceptible to challenges from Mother Nature. Those risks often lead to out of stocks, low quality and size or value results. That volatility leads to higher prices and unhappy consumers. Hydroponic lettuces and greens, like those produced by Hollandia Produce, are gaining in popularity because of the predictable high quality, consistency and pricing when compared to customary farming methods.

Clearly, hydroponic greenhouse farming is a great answer to that growing consumer sentiment. 



Cook also suggests, “Retailers and food service operators listening to their patrons can take advantage of this and other consumer trends with our fantastic products. Retailers can build a distinctive set within the produce department using hydroponic lettuces. You can add tomatoes and cukes as a bump out for opportunity buys and give consumers the message that tonight should be salad night.” He continues, “Foodservice operators can use their secondary/seasonal menu items to tell the sustainability story and offer patrons low-carb or protein-style LTO (limited time offer) promotions to bring excitement around the menu items.”
