Google data shows cauliflower trend unlikely

While many online bloggers may argue that cauliflower will be the next big food trend, Chase Purdy, a writer for qz.com disagrees. He states that claims have been made for years predicting the rise of the vegetable to the head of the pack but google search numbers and stagnating prices are anything to go on however, this is highly unlikely.

Charts built from data from total google searches show that cauliflower is even less popular than spinach, which isn't the star vegetable itself. While searches for both vegetables have been rising in the last years this also could be due to a rise in internet users around the globe. The data also shows that users have been around twice as interested in searching for broccoli than cauliflower.

This all comes at a time where climate conditions have been putting the squeeze on cauliflower production. This has been happening for the past several years but the price per pound has remained relatively unchanged according to a Purdy. They believe that this shows that unlike most products whose prices are driven by demand, cauliflower price has remained nearly unchanged even when supplies were more scarce.
