Apple crop settles back down to normal levels of supply
Looking ahead for the remainder of 2016, Ford predicts a good holiday pull of demand for apples, many of which for Ford are coming out of Washington State and California. “Prices are good this year, though we’re finding a lot of the varietals are going down because people are planting more acreage of those,” says Ford, whose company stocks varieties such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Red Delicious, Gold Delicious, Fujis, Braeburns, Pink Ladies and more. “And they’re pulling out of Red Delicious (a crisp, sweet apple) because they’re not selling. So for Pink Ladies and Honeycrisp and varieties like that, the price is dropping on those. It’s a bit of a trend.”
