Wisconsin in need of disaster relief after May freeze

After relentless freezing temperatures killed off crops in May, Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin has requested federal funding. The request seemed a bit delayed but this was due to farmers not seeing how the brutal cold affected their crops until mid may.

“Wisconsin producers are in need of assistance from USDA to help them deal with their losses,” Walker said. “I ask that you respond quickly with the designation so the affected producers may obtain relief.”

According to Walker growers are hoping for relief after losing up to 30% or more in a wide range of crops of asparagus, apples, blueberries, strawberries and hops.
