A new initiative on Prince Edwards Island aims to improve yields, profitability and the environmental sustainability of the potato industry there. The initiative was announced by the Island potato board, Cavendish Farms and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
To meet the goals, three working groups have been established with memberships of farmers and resource personnel.
The groups will look at soil health, seed management and science and technology and work to establish research and extension projects.
General manager of the P.E.I. Potato Board, Greg Donald, said the initiative is focused on listening to growers and working with them to enhance the productivity and profitability of their farms.
"We plan to access the latest information in agricultural research and technology to find new and better ways to provide this information to our growers."
