First FFE farmers’ day since Covid in Polokwane

Favourite Fresh Export, alongside Laeveld Agrochem, is hosting farmers at their annual growers' day in Polokwane.

It will take place on Wednesday 1 March 2023 and it will be the first FFE growers' day since the outbreak of Covid19.

Right: South Africa's lemon harvest has been held up by persistent rain in the north of the country

This event was first held in 2001 and has steadily grown since. At the last growers' day 250 people attended.

The event is presented in association with various other companies who provide a service to the Farmers which includes the Citrus Growers’ Association, Gossamar, Corruseal, Citadel Invest, Citadel Global, Masgcor, Tomra, Moorland Seedlings and others.

As the citrus season gets underway in Limpopo, delegates will hear from the Citrus Growers' Association’s Mitchell Brooke what the outlook is for logistics and shipping this year.

Deon Joubert, the CGA’s envoy to the European Union, will share insights into this important but complicated citrus market.

Farmers will have the opportunity to put questions regarding market access to Elma Carstens and Hannes Bester of Citrus Research International.

Anton Kruger, the CEO of the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum, will give an overview on South Africa’s place in global fresh produce trade.

Tickets are R250, which includes a lunch at the Grincourt Nature in Polokwane. The event opens at 8:30 for 9am and runs until 3pm.

Favourite Fresh Export (FFE) was established in 2009 is a grower export company that produces and exports fresh produce from its shareholders and non-shareholders throughout South Africa.

"Our intention with the growers day is to bring something different to the technical aspect of exports, rather something that is uplifting and positive to get everyone ready for the season ahead," says Tjaart du Plessis, CEO of Favourite Fresh Export.

He notes that the grower's day was originally held for citrus growers, but is busy evolving into a growers' day for farmers of all export commodities.
