“I have high hopes for the mango season, it should be one of the best for us”

The mango season in India is getting started. Volumes up until this point have been on the lower side, but it is expected that April will be the peak month of the season. Costs for transport are posing a challenge, however, but despite this challenge one exporter states he hopes this will be one of the best seasons yet for the company.

Although there are less mango volumes being harvested, the quality of the product is better this season, says Krish International chairman Himan Chavda: “In India, our mango export is in the initial stage of the season. Krish International mainly exports three varieties of the mango; Kesar, Alphonso and the Badami mango. Demand for these mangoes from India is always on the higher side, thanks to the unique taste the mangoes from India brings to the table. The yield for mangoes will be lower this year compared to previous seasons, which means the price will be a little tight, but at the same time, the quality of the mangoes is better this season.”

For the Indian exporters, the increased costs for transport are also a reality, Chavda explains. “This year, the logistic part of our operation has been a challenge, as still freight are on the higher side. This naturally has an effect on the costs exporters have to put in, and it’s a significant effect at that. When it comes to the mango season, the start is only slowly picking up now, as demand is increasing across the world. The main booming markets are found in Europe and Canada, as these markets appear to be leading for us this season.”

The month of April is supposed to be the best month of the season for Krish International: “As we’re still at the starting stage of the season, volumes are currently lower, however the export volumes are expected to increase in the next month, which should be the best month of the season. Hopefully during the upcoming weeks the price for mangoes will decrease, as volumes start to increase by mid-April. Markets should be stable and steady, which is good for business. I have high hopes for the season, it should be one of the best for us.” Chavda concludes.
