In 2021, exports of fresh MD2 pineapples from Panama to Spain increased, totaling 2,347,444 kilos and a FOB value of 1,106,311. The volume sent to Spain doubled the 1,113,246 kilos that were shipped to this destination in 2020, making Spain the European country that received the most Panamanian pineapple exports, stated Eric Dormoi, National Director of Export Promotion of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI). In 2022 there are already companies making important shipments to this market.
"Our market research shows that the Chorrera pineapples that arrive by air to this destination could be found at various points of sale in the country, for example, in the Public Barley Market, in Madrid, where it has been well accepted," the director of the MICI stated.
From January to December 2021, Panama exported fresh pineapples to Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Belgium, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Portugal for a value of 3,338,174.00 dollars.
