U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement Seasonal Perishable Products Weekly Update

Shoppers encouraged to buy items such as onions, sweet potatoes, apples and potatoes right now

Retailers are urging shoppers to purchase their holiday must-haves early this year. Weekly grocery chains’ advertisements are focused on supplies for the Thanksgiving Day meal, along with baking staples and holiday decorations.

Shoppers are even encouraged to buy their longer-lasting produce items, such as onions, sweet potatoes, apples, and potatoes, now rather than to delay and face a holiday without certain dishes if supplies are unavailable. Continued truck shortages across the nation, along with a slow clearing of the unprecedented backlog at seaports, mean that many retailers are urging their customers to “buy early".

Mexican avocado crossings through Texas are expected to remain about the same. Trading was moderate with more availability compared to the previous few weeks.

Peruvian imports of blueberries arriving through the Philadelphia and New York City areas movement via boat is expected to decrease as the season is past peak. Trading was moderate with prices generally unchanged. Quality reported as mostly good. Peruvian imports arriving through Southern California movement via boat is expected to decrease seasonally.

Trading was slow with prices generally unchanged. Quality reported as mostly good despite the end of the season and additional unloading delays. Mexican blueberry crossings through Arizona, California, and Texas movement expected about the same. Trading was very slow at lower prices. Quality is reported as variable.
