Late last week, the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) and the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), signed an agreement on the layout of the transmission line of the Ecuador - Peru Electric Interconnection - at 500,000 volts - which will be located in the banana production areas.
With the new interconnection, energy exchanges will be carried out between Ecuador and Peru to take advantage of hydrological complementarity, based on trade and regulatory regional integration agreements.
Raúl Canelos, manager of the Transelectric Unit, stressed that the signing of this agreement symbolizes that two productive sectors can find common points with a future projection. Likewise, he expressed that these agreements demonstrate the fulfillment of the objectives of the Government of the Meeting, of joint work between private companies and the public sector, which will allow to improve the quality of life and build progress.
The new Ecuador-Peru Interconnection system at 500,000 volts will have an investment of USD 300 mln, of which USD 250 mln will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This project will cross the provinces of Guayas, El Oro and part of Azuay.
