SPAR South Africa sees 'solid' performance from Ireland, Switzerland and Poland operations
South Africa's SPAR Group has reported 'solid turnover growth' in its Ireland operations in the 48 weeks to 27 August, while its Swiss business saw 'an extraordinary performance' during the period. In a trading update, the Pinetown-based business said that its BWG Foods operation in Ireland reported 3.3% growth in euro-denominated currency, with its neighbourhood store brands experiencing 'positive sales growth' due to increased local shopping.

Les Mousquetaires posts strongest growth in France in August
Groupement Les Mousquetaires, which operates the Intermarché banner, was the strongest performer in the French grocery market in the 4 weeks to 5 September, according to Kantar, recording a 0.8 percentage point increase in market share. The group, which recently announced a new purchasing alliance alongside Groupe Casino, now holds a market share of 16.3%, the data showed.

The total cross-border e-commerce market in Europe, including the UK, Switzerland and Norway, accounted for a turnover of 198.5bln euros in 2020 (excluding travel), of which 115.4bln or 58% was generated by marketplaces. US: Giant Food offers fee break on home delivery
Giant Food is making online grocery delivery and pickup orders more affordable by easing fees and minimum order requirements. Landover, Maryland-based Giant said that it has removed fees for Giant Delivers midweek orders (Tuesday to Thursday) for customers across its Mid-Atlantic market area. Also, for orders placed during the Friday-to-Monday period, the grocer has halved the delivery fee to $3.95. Minimum order amounts for delivery have been cut as well, from $60 to $30.

Albertsons Cos. has formed a partnership with Firework, a short-form video platform designed to bring a shoppable, livestream video experience to any website. The food retailer is the first U.S. grocer to employ the Firework platform to bring online shoppers a community-oriented experience led by shoppable, short-form and livestream video.
