France: Interfel reaffirms its determination to fight against any fraud in the origin of fresh fruit and vegetables

Interfel has confirmed that it will side with other organizations to open a judicial procedure, after the prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhône department revealed that it suspects the francization of fresh fruit and vegetables.

For Interfel, fighting against frauds on origins is a priority because, beyond deceiving consumers with false information, it calls into question the economic balance of the sector and the efforts made by the producers.

Respecting the French regulation and interprofessional agreements on French products requires stricter controls on the origin, which is a regulatory obligation for fresh fruit and vegetables.

Research and experimentation must, through new investments, reinforce the tools for traceability of the origins, especially since some societal demands like the development of bulk sales constitute an increased risk.

The use by operators of collective labels linked to the origin, such as the “Fruit and Vegetables of France” logo, leads to additional control by the interprofession through its body of experts who check its application throughout the territory.

The use of the “Fruit and Vegetables of France” logo will help reinforce the legal action of Interfel in case fraud is proven.

Interfel supports the French authorities when it comes to strengthening controls as part of the regulation in place.
