On 26 January, Dutch refrigeration company, Koel- en Vriesveem St Nyk took over the carrot processing company, Vriemex's activities in Nagele. This village is in Flevoland, the Netherlands. At the end of 2020, St Nyk sold its premises in Sint Nicolaasga to Holiday Ice.
This was a strategic decision because the company received very little produce from Groningen en Friesland. These are close to where it's located. In recent years, almost all the chicory and carrots St Nyk has received come from Noordoost and Flevopolder.
The company had recently started working with Vriemex, and its affiliate, Koel- en Vriesbedrijf De Vries. That led to the takeover of Vriemex's activities. Starting next season, St Nyk will be providing refrigeration services in Nagele.
That will bring along some changes. For instance, the present cooling system at that site will be replaced. Natural coolants will be used throughout. They will also convert several cells to be able to store chicory.
The trading company, Hagranop, moved into the Vriemex building on 26 January too. Hagranop trades in organic and conventional root vegetables. They were already a Vriemex supplier and buyer.
